Our state's prison system is broken. Roughly 65% of former prisoners end up back in the system, and each one costs taxpayers $39,000. These bills take a sensible, practical approach to fixing our broken system. Through education and job training, strengthening family connections, and giving ex-offenders a few basic but crucial tools, the state can help former prisoners reenter society and avoid going back into the system. New Jersey is over $8 billion in the red this year, and we can't afford to continue wasting taxpayer dollars on a broken system.
