VINELAND--The state's budget deadline is now just weeks away and on Thursday some South Jersey residents took a stand on proposed cuts that will affect low-income families and the Latino community.
In Vineland, a crowd gathered to protest the cuts that will eliminate or reduce funding for health screenings, emergency food distribution, and many other services.
Leaders in the protest say the cuts could also mean layoffs, if the legislature fails to oppose Governor Christie's budget and override his veto of the millionaire's tax.
Governor's Christie's budget leaves no millionaire behind and balances the entire budget on New Jersey citizens and folks are really calling on their legislatures to stand up for New Jersey, fight these devastating cuts and to pass the millionaire's tax," says Bill Holland, Coordinator for Better Choices for New Jersey Campaign.
The Spanish Community Center, Shore Area Health Education Center and Casa Puerto Rican Action Committee helped organize the event.
