The New Jersey Working Families Alliance was founded in 2007 by groups representing retail workers, nurses, environmentalists, retirees, consumers, parents and ordinary citizens who were tired of unaccountable state and local government. We push Democrats and Republicans to fight for good jobs, affordable health care, a clean environment, excellent schools and honest government. We promote progressive policies and support candidates who will stand up for the issues that matter. Working Families Alliance support has helped elect local and state representatives through grassroots action - knocking on doors, making phone calls and turning out voters on Election Day. That's the kind of work that moves votes -- and the politicians know it.

The NJWFA grows out of the Fairness Alliance, a multi-year campaign that helped win an income tax surcharge on people making over half a million dollars a year that staved off deep cuts in the state budget. We're working to build on those successes, and to bring that same kind of pragmatic, progressive politics to new fights over health care, schools and the environment.
